Did You Know...

Covered employers must post their OSHA Form 300A in the workplace by February 1st?

It’s that time of year again to comply with OSHA’s reporting requirements.  OSHA requires covered employers to annually complete an OSHA Form 300A to summarize the number of work-related injuries and illnesses that occurred in the workplace during the previous calendar year and that were logged on the OSHA 300 Form.  The completed OSHA Form 300A for 2011 must be certified by a company executive and be conspicuously posted in the workplace from February 1st until April 30th in an area where employee notices are usually displayed.

A separate OSHA Form 300A must be completed for each establishment or work site that is expected to be in operation for one year or longer.

The form must be posted even if there were no recordable injuries or illnesses in 2011 by placing zeros on the total line.  A copy of the form should be made available to employees who do not report to any fixed work site or who travel from worksite to worksite.

Organizations with ten or fewer employees during all of 2011, religious establishments, and certain low-hazard industries are exempt from OSHA's general recordkeeping and posting requirements and do not have to complete or post the OSHA Form 300A

Covered employers that fail to complete or properly maintain the required OSHA forms can receive penalties ranging from $1,000 - $7,000 (up to $10,000 for willful violations).

Clients of HR One can download the form by logging in with their user id and password.

Employers with Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes between 525 - 899 are not required to keep OSHA injury and illness records for any work site classified in any of the 525-899 SIC codes unless asked to do so by OSHA, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), or a state agency operating under the authority of OSHA or the BLS.
