Why Does It Matter and How You Can Recognize Your Team
Friday March 3rd is National Employee Appreciation Day!
National Employee Appreciation Day is an opportunity to recognize the work and performance of your employees and to celebrate their dedication to your organization and mission. Employee recognition is a critical component to establishing a productive and engaged workforce. According to a study by the O.C. Tanner Institute, “…performance recognition for great work significantly impacts employee engagement at a rate of more than 2-to-1.” That same study went on to say “Employees who receive strong recognition are 33% more likely to be proactively innovating, generating 2x as many ideas per month compared to those who aren’t recognized well. Further, companies that provide effective performance recognition are more than 2x as likely to be highly innovative.”
Author of “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” Steven Covey used the idea of an “emotional bank account” when writing about interpersonal relationships- like those between an employer and an employee. Every day we make emotional deposits and withdrawals in our relationships, and taking the time to let your employees know that you appreciate them and the work they do can be a significant emotional deposit with them.
