Managed Separation & Unemployment Insurance Cost Control

The technicalities of unemployment insurance are numerous and complex; however, knowledgeable and consistent administration by someone representing the employer’s best interests reduces unemployment insurance costs.

HR One provides ongoing employer education, claims processing, claims audit, hearing representation, and tax analysis services, including:

Strategic, Pre-Separation Services - In order to develop a sound system for handling employee discipline and separations, HR One will review, make recommendations to, and update personnel policies of the Client or write new employee policies for:

  • Employment-at-will
  • Separations during new employee orientation period
  • Attendance, including call-in procedures for tardiness and absences
  • Personal conduct
  • Corrective discipline
  • Separation from employment

Disciplinary Action and Separation from Employment Support - HR One will provide Client's supervisors with unlimited telephone and e-mail consultation assistance relating to disciplinary action and separations.

Unemployment Insurance Claims Administration Services

  • Assist Client in processing unemployment insurance claims by answering Client's questions about claim forms, completing Employee Separation Section of claim forms, submitting completed claim forms to the Department of Labor, and corresponding with the Department of Labor on our Client’s behalf;
  • Review Department of Labor's rulings on unemployment insurance claims eligibility, make recommendations to Client to appeal decisions as appropriate, and initiate hearing/appeal action
  • Review unemployment insurance charges to Client's account and claimants' benefit rates, and notify Department of Labor of errors as appropriate. Provide Client with reports of account activity.
  • Review Client's unemployment insurance tax rate on an annual basis to ensure lowest possible rate and provide information on joint accounts, direct reimbursement payment methods, and voluntary contribution to Client's account if appropriate, to lower tax rate.

Hearings - Provide unemployment insurance hearing representation and/or assistance.

Educational Seminars - Conduct seminars for Client's supervisors which will include the following topics:

  • Coaching and counseling
  • Conducting effective investigations
  • Corrective discipline
  • Employee separations and terminations
  • Equal employment regulations
  • Unemployment insurance regulations overview
